Production Cycle: 60 days
Client Requirements
The client required a set of small batch stainless steel components designed for high-pressure gas storage and reaction applications. These components needed to meet stringent dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements, as the final parts would undergo pressure testing up to 40 MPa to ensure product safety.

The primary challenges involved:

Ensuring precise dimensional tolerances for high-pressure resistance.
Achieving a flawless surface finish to prevent stress points.
Ensuring welding integrity and effective sealing during assembly.
Design Analysis
The client provided comprehensive 3D+2D design drawings, which were carefully reviewed by our engineering team to ensure that all dimensions and geometries were achievable with our advanced machining capabilities.

We selected Stainless Steel 316L, known for its excellent corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and strength, to ensure the parts could withstand high pressures and harsh conditions over time.

A critical design focus was placed on the welding process, ensuring that the welding joints would have sufficient strength and the required seal integrity. This was vital for the product’s performance during high-pressure testing.

Production Process
Our production process involved a combination of CNC machining, welding, and surface finishing to meet the client’s exact requirements.

CNC Turning
The first step involved CNC turning, where initial shaping was performed, including machining the center hole and ensuring the overall dimensional accuracy and concentricity of each part.

Key Challenges: Achieving high precision while working with stainless steel 316L, a material known for its hardness and potential tool wear.

CNC Milling
In the CNC milling stage, we machined the complex geometries of the parts. This step ensured that the surface finish was smooth and the precision was within tight tolerances.

Key Challenges: Milling small, intricate features in a material that requires careful handling to prevent distortion and maintain tight tolerances.

Welding (TIG Welding)
TIG welding was employed for the welding process, ensuring strong and reliable seals. This method was carefully controlled to ensure weld integrity and proper sealing, especially for high-pressure applications.

Key Challenges: Achieving airtight seals during the welding process, which is crucial for pressure testing and component functionality.

Electropolishing
The final electropolishing process enhanced the surface smoothness and ensured the parts met the required surface finish specifications. This step also helped improve corrosion resistance, critical for parts used in high-pressure and reactive environments.

Key Challenges: Ensuring uniform polishing to meet both aesthetic and functional standards without compromising dimensional accuracy.

EDM Process
In addition to conventional machining, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) was used to achieve high precision in areas with complex geometries, ensuring sharp corners and tight tolerances.

Testing & Quality Control
Given the critical application of the components, rigorous testing was carried out at multiple stages of production to ensure quality:

Dimensional Accuracy: We used precision 3D coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to measure the parts and verify that they met the client’s strict dimensional tolerances.
Surface Finish: Surface roughness gauges were used to ensure the required finish was achieved.
Pressure Testing: After welding, the components underwent pressure testing at 40 MPa to ensure they could safely withstand the operational conditions.
Each batch was produced in accordance with ISO’s AQL standards to ensure that every part complied with the client’s high quality expectations.

Experience & Results
Our extensive experience in precision machining, combined with a thorough quality control system, enabled us to successfully produce high-quality components that met the client’s requirements. We delivered the 100 sets within the 60-day production cycle, ensuring a timely and safe delivery of high-pressure gas storage components.

Client Satisfaction: The client was highly satisfied with the final products, noting the dimensional accuracy, weld integrity, and superior surface finish. The components successfully passed pressure testing, confirming the quality and reliability of the parts.
